Today we talk to our client Tina Seymour, CEO of Hope for Tomorrow charity – bringing cancer treatment closer to home.

Tina Seymour

What attracted you to business coaching Tina?

“I saw one of your posts on Linked-In about planning and strategy and this was an area of the business I was keen to improve. However, I had been let down by mentors and coaches in the past and it was only by attending an ActionCOACH event with a friend and experiencing your free business coaching that I started to reconsider having ActionCOACH as part of my team”.

What challenges do you face in your business?

“I have nothing to sell. There is no Hope for Tomorrow product or service. We “sell” what we do. The impact and benefits of mobile cancer units.

We rely on donations and support from families affected by cancer, corporate support, grants, trusts and legacies. We have no government funding and “compete” against 600 other cancer charities”.

As CEO of the business, what are your own personal challenges?

“It can be a lonely place being a CEO. Everyone assumes you have all the answers.  Sometimes I feel I should be “on duty” all the time.

I am a naturally shy person, so being the face of the business can sometimes feel daunting”.

Tina, How Do You Manage Your Work / Life Balance?

“Well, I have become a bit better at this! I was working too many long hours, but since starting my business coaching with Billy Smith, I understand the importance of switching off.

At the weekends I enjoy cooking and gardening, musical theatre and watching the ups and downs of Arsenal F.C. My ambition to be the Arsenal manager is looking unlikely, but I persevere as a fan!

What Is Your Experience of Business Coaching?

“Billy has never told me what to do. Instead, he has given me the resources, knowledge and learning so I am building the business brick by brick and loving it”.

What Has Surprised You About Having a Business Coach?

“It’s like holding up a mirror to help me see the areas in which I can improve. Billy has given me the skills and confidence in who I am – to understand my beliefs and values – so I can strive to be the best CEO I can. It’s like a light has gone on”.

What Do You Most Value About Business Coaching with ActionCOACH Cheltenham?

“I am surprised and underestimated the emotional depth I’d go to with ActionCOACH. And how fun it is. Billy has become a friend, a mentor and is hugely supportive”.

The ActionCOACH Cheltenham team will be supporting Tina at the Hope for Tomorrow – The Future of Cancer Care Gala Dinner at Cheltenham Racecourse on Friday 5th November 2021.
